Coach Tharp has been with IFC for over 15 years. He has been fencing for over 25, including his years on the IU Fencing Club Team. He is a certified Moniteur in Saber and working towards his certification in Epee as well. In addition to Saber and Epee, he has also been active in HEMA for many years, mostly practicing longsword, rapier, and saber (including highland broadsword) as well as Kendo (“Japanese fencing”). He is currently coaching primarily at the Broad Ripple Salle (at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church). He attended Indiana University and holds a Certificate in Martial Arts, a Bachelor’s in Business Administration, and Juris Doctor. He is a practicing attorney focused on in-house pharmaceutical work. In addition to fencing, he enjoys being with his family, traveling to visit historic sites, cycling, and driving his 1990 Mazda Miata. He is also an antique sword dealer (www.tharparmoury.com).
